Industry Benchmark Emission Index (IBEI)

At the request of a number of participants, an Industry Benchmark Emission Index (IBEI) has been defined, which reflects the NEM intensity index adjusted for energy at the regional reference nodes.

The methodology for calculating this is provided below. The IBEI will be calculated on a daily basis and published weekly to the AEMO website in accordance with the timing of the issue of preliminary statements.

Note that the IBEI is not currently included as a supplementary indicator in the CDEII procedure. Consequently any users of the IBEI need to be aware of the important Information and Disclaimer below. In the interim, AEMO intends to provide this data via the AEMO web site only.

Methodology

The IBEI is a NEM-wide emission index adjusted for marginal loss factors.
The IBEI is calculated according to the following formula:

 IBEI EQUATION

where:

IBEI = Industry Benchmark Emission Index for the NEM (t CO2-e/MWh) adjusted for marginal losses.

CDEi = Carbon Dioxide Equivalent emission from a generating unit (t CO2-e) as measured at the connection point for the generator.

Ei = Sent Out Energy (MWh) generated from a generating unit, as measured at the connection point.

MLFi = Marginal Loss Factor applicable for a generating unit for the relevant day.

IBEI files

Files contain daily summarised regional and NEM wide IBEI results.

Important Information and Disclaimer

This Industry Benchmark Emission Index (IBEI) has been published by the Australian Energy Market Operator Limited (AEMO) solely to provide information requested by participants in the national electricity market.
