DER Register reporting
The DER Register
The Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Register is a database of information about DER devices that is foundational to AEMO’s DER Program.
The DER Register stores information about a DER device installed on-site at a residential or business location. This information will be requested by Network Services Providers (or network operators) from qualified electrical contractors and solar installers at the time of the DER installation.
The data stored in the DER Register is known as DER generation information.
DER generation information is defined in the National Electricity Rules (NER) Chapter 10 as standing data in relation to a small generating unit. A small generating unit is a generating unit
with a nameplate rating less than 30MW; and
which is owned, controlled or operated by a person that AEMO has exempted from the requirement to register as a Generator in respect of that generating unit in accordance with clause 2.2.1(c).
DER Register Report
Under the National Electricity Rules, AEMO has an obligation to provide quarterly reports on the number of DER devices installed across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
This initial report is based largely on the historic or existing DER information submitted by Network Service Providers (NSPs) in compliance with clause 11.108.3 of the National Electricity Rules. This Rule states that all NSPs are required to provide all pre-existing information they hold in relation to the connection points on their networks that would meet the definition of ‘DER generation information’ under the National Electricity Amendment (Register of distributed energy resources) Rule 2018.
This data was submitted by NSPs using a manual bulk upload process. This process was used by NSPs in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania until 1 March 2020, and by NSPs in NSW and ACT until 29 March 2020. After these go-live dates, NSPs were required to provide full data sets to the DER Register in compliance with the data model specified in the DER Register Information Guidelines.
The DER Register Report includes an CSV file or download.
DER Register solar installations by state and installation year
DER Register Solar Installation Capacity by State and Installation year (kVA)
DER Register battery installations by state and installation year
DER Register Battery Storage Capacity by State and Installation year (kVAh)
A CSV file is available for download. This file contains all submitted DER Register Information aggregated down to Post Code level. To satisfy the privacy requirements specified in the DER Register Information Guidelines all post codes with fewer than 10 connections have been removed. The CSV file includes an aggregate of these removed sites aggregated as a State level.
There is a feedback section below, and we welcome any feedback on DER Register data, format of the report, suggestions for the report, and any other issues that arise.
