Register as a Market Ancillary Service Provider (MASP) in the NEM
Market Ancillary Service Providers will transition to Demand Response Service Providers (DRSP) on the 24th of October 2021, in line with the National Electricity Amendment (Wholesale demand response mechanism). MASP applications will not be accepted after the 1st of September 2021.
This page outlines the requirements for registering as a Market Ancillary Service Provider (MASP) in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
A MASP delivers market ancillary services in accordance with AEMO’s market ancillary services specifications, by offering a customer’s load, or an aggregation of loads into FCAS markets.
A MASP need not be the customer’s retailer. In practice, this may mean that while a customer has a retail supply contract with a retailer, a customer may also have a separate contract with a MASP to provide ancillary services.”
It also provides information for participants who are already registered as a MASP about classifying additional load as an ancillary service load.
These are the documents needed for registration or to classify additional or aggregated ancillary service loads.

Short-term DER in FCAS arrangements
This guidance document seeks to expedite the participation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) in Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) markets in the National Electricity Market (NEM) in the short term. It sets out AEMO’s approach to approving the classification of a load which has DER behind the connection point as an ancillary services load under the current National Electricity Rules (NER) and Market Ancillary Services Specifications (MASS).
