The cause of this non credible contingency event has been identified and AEMO is satisfied that another occurrence of this event is unlikely under the current circumstances.

AEMO will not reclassify this event as a credible contingency event.

AEMO has become aware of the following circumstance(s) with respect to the power system,

At 1408 hrs the Townsville South Number 2 bus tripped. This disconnected the following feeders:

7303 Townsville South - Mount Stuart 132 kV line
7243 Townsville South - Mount Stuart 132 kV line
7130 Townsville South - Invicta Mill Tee Clare South 132 kV line
7249 Townsville South - Ross 132 kV line
7237 Townsville South - Townsville Zinc 132 kV line

AEMO did not instruct load shedding.

Simultaneously with this event AEMO has observed a reduction in the electrical demand in the Queensland region of approximately 60 MW.

Update to South Australian system black restoration.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE.

POWER SYSTEM EVENT

At 1618 hrs Wednesday, 28 September the SA power system separated from the NEM and became black. A very large lightning storm was traveling across the state at the time. Refer MN# 54994
At 0520 hrs the restoration is proceeding with approx. 900 MW restored in the South Australian region - load will continue to be restored and further updates will be given when information becomes available.
Due to potential damage in the north of the state, restoration in this part of the network could be delayed.
