AEMO plays an important planning and coordination role during times of national and state-based gas emergencies.

A gas incident is defined as an event which materially affects – or has the potential to have a material effect on – the production, transportation, or supply of natural gas to meet projected demand requirements. Where an incident gives rise to an actual or potential shortfall in gas supplies to one or more jurisdictions, AEMO will coordinate with industry and government to facilitate market and operational processes to manage and respond to the incident.
