On 12 March 2020, in support of the AEMC’s Wholesale Demand Response Mechanism (WDRM) rule change process AEMO published a high-level design (HLD) document. To develop a HLD AEMO has worked closely with the AEMC to understand their policy objectives and WDRM design. The HLD is AEMO’s initial consideration on how the proposed WDRM rule might be implemented and is intended to assist industry in understanding the AEMC’s proposed rule.
On 11 June 2020, AEMO published an updated HLD document that reflects the AEMC's WDRM final rule and AEMO's latest considerations, including:
- Settlement capping
- AEMO’s new proposal to adopt a reduction model in dispatch
- Clarification that indicative telemetry thresholds are subject to change
- Amendments to the list of affected policies and procedures
