Cancellation - Reclassification of a Non-Credible Contingency Event - South Australia Region - 18/12/2024

Refer to MN 107306

Based on advice from the asset owner, AEMO no longer considers the simultaneous trip of Robertstown - North West Bend No 1 132 kV Line and the North West Bend - Monash - Berri No 1 132 kV Line as a credible contingency event.

Therefore, AEMO cancels the reclassification as a credible contingency event from 1300 hrs 18/12/2024.


Manager NEM Real Time Operations

The MTPASA result published on 17 December 2024 identifies annual unserved energy exceeds the Reliability Standard between:
-- December 2024 - December 2025 in New South Wales.

On 17 December 2024, AEMO declared Low Reserve Conditions (LRC) for New South Wales for the period from December 2024 to February 2025 (inclusive) based on the MT PASA results published on that day.

Following a further review of the MT PASA results from 17 December 2024, AEMO has determined that expected unserved energy is forecast above the reliability standard due to transmission outages and reclassifications, which are not considered a reliability incident as per clause 3.9.3C of the National Electricity Rules. Therefore, AEMO is no longer declaring LRC for New South Wales for this period.

Please note that MT PASA provides early information to the market on potential reliability issues, enabling the market to respond proactively and potentially avoid the need for AEMO intervention

Background

As part of a broader process of implementing the reliability standard, AEMO runs the Medium Term Projected Assessment of System Adequacy (MTPASA) process weekly to forecast expected unserved energy levels over a two year period. If the expected annual unserved energy exceeds the maximum level specified by the Reliability Standard, a Low Reserve Condition is identified.
