Direction - SA region to AGL SA Generation Pty Limited - TORRB2 TORRENS ISLAN

In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO is issuing a direction to AGL SA Generation Pty Limited. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a1)(1).

Direction issued to: AGL SA Generation Pty Limited - TORRB2 TORRENS ISLAN at 1630 hrs 16/12/2024
Type of resource: generating unit
Required actions: Remain synchronised and follow dispatch targets at 0130 hrs 17/12/2024
Services provided: Voltage Control
Circumstances necessitating the Direction: Voltage
Circumstances necessitating the Direction additional detail: The synchronous generating units currently expected to be synchronised in SA will be inadequate to maintain sufficient Voltage Control in SA. Intervention is required to maintain the power system in a secure operating state
Expected duration: 0400 hrs 18/12/2024.

AGL SA Generation Pty Limited does not incur any civil monetary liability for a relevant action taken in accordance with this direction unless the action is taken in bad faith.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Direction - SA region 16/12/2024

In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO has issued a direction to a participant in the SA region. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a1)(1).

The issue of the direction commences an AEMO intervention event. AEMO declares all trading intervals during the event to be intervention trading intervals, commencing from the interval ending 1635 hrs on 16/12/2024.

Intervention pricing does not apply to this AEMO intervention event.

AEMO may issue or revoke additional directions in order to meet the current requirement, unless sufficient market response is provided. A further market notice will be issued when all directions related to this requirement have been cancelled.

Update - Foreseeable AEMO intervention in SA region

Refer AEMO Electricity Market Notice 121963

AEMO has identified a foreseeable circumstance that may require an AEMO intervention event in the SA region from 0130 hrs 17/12/2024.

The foreseeable circumstance requiring the need for intervention is Voltage.

AEMO estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 1630 hrs 16/12/2024, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction.

AEMO's weather service provider has issued forecast temperatures equal to or greater than the NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels for listed weather stations below.

AEMO requests Market Participants to:

1. review the weather forecast in the local area where their generating units / MNSP converter stations are located and,

2. if required, update the available capacity in their dispatch offers or availability submissions consistent with the forecast temperatures.

Fix typo: Line 7141 should read Line 7143

At 2026 hrs 12/12/2024 the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7143 tripped.

The cause of the trip was identified as due to lightning.

In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron Gorge 132 kV Line 7143 to be vulnerable with a category of probable due to lightning.

Non-credible contingency event - QLD region - 12/12/2024

At 2026 hrs the Kamerunga to Barron George 132 kV Line 7184 and the Kamerunga to Barron George 132 kV Line 7141 tripped.

AEMO did not instruct load shedding.

AEMO has not been advised of any disconnection of bulk electrical load.

The cause of this non credible contingency event is not known at this stage.
