Powerlink has recently published a ‘Project Specification Consultation Report’ to address the secondary systems condition risks at Dan Gleeson Substation.

Located in south-west Townsville, Dan Gleeson Substation is a major injection point into the Ergon Energy distribution network. Several secondary systems at Baralaba Substation are nearing the end of their technical life and are increasingly at risk of failure. These secondary systems are also now facing obsolescence (i.e. they are no longer supported by the manufacturer and have no spares available).

The proposed preferred option that is considered to satisfy the Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission involves replacing all secondary systems at Dan Gleeson with new secondary systems using a modular prefabricated building by December 2020.

The estimated capital cost of the proposed preferred option is $5.4 million in 2017/18 prices.

In accordance with the requirements of the Rules, a summary of the Project Specification Consultation Report is made available on the AEMO website. A copy of the ‘Project Specification Consultation Report’ can be obtained from the Powerlink Website on the RIT-T Consultations page or by emailing networkassessments@powerlink.com.au.

Submissions on the Project Specification Consultation Report are required by the closing date of Friday 3 August 2018.
