About the AEMO Major Projects Working Group

The Market Advisory Committee (MAC) established the Major Projects Working Group (MPWG) in May 2025, to facilitate effective engagement between AEMO, Energy Policy WA (EPWA), Rule Participants and consumer representatives on the planning, implementation, and management of AEMO Major Projects.

The MPWG is established in accordance with clause 2.3.17 of the Electricity System and Market Rules.

To support the ongoing energy transition, and the Western Australian State Electricity Objective, AEMO is also developing the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Implementation Roadmap, which will provide a holistic view of the implementation of projects impacting the WEM. The WEM Implementation Roadmap will include Major Projects and other projects.

More information on the operation of the MPWG and the WEM Implementation Roadmap can be found in the Terms of Reference below.

MPWG Participation

The MPWG will be chaired by AEMO, with the WA Executive General Manager as the inaugural Chair. MPWG members will consist of  representatives from Rule Participants, Energy Policy WA, consumer representatives and other relevant organisations. Each organisation will only have one member on the MPWG.

AEMO will soon be releasing a call for nominations for the AEMO MPWG, for approval by the Chair (and where relevant the MAC) via:

  • Publication on this webpage; and
  • Via email to members on the WA Electricity Consultative Forum mailing list;

You can also register your interest at majorprojects@aemo.com.au.

Selected members will have sufficient expertise to discuss the subject matter to be covered and be of an appropriate level of seniority within their organisation to provide organisational views on the matters covered  .
