AEMO is leading a variety of Distributed Energy Integration Program (DEIP) working groups and taskforces including two electric vehicle taskforces:

  • Electric Vehicle Data Availability Taskforce
  • Electric Vehicle-Grid Integration Standards Taskforce.

EV Data Availability Taskforce

This taskforce relates to the DEIP and AEMO’s Data and Information Services workstream.

The DEIP ‘Electric Vehicle Data Availability Taskforce’ brings together a broad range of industry and government stakeholders to assess electric vehicle data availability and requirements to enable the effective integration of electric vehicles into Australia’s electricity grid.  This taskforce collaborates with all aspects of the DER Program, with key findings and outcomes feeding into the DEIP Market Development stream and DER initiatives across the industry.

Objective:

The objective of the group is to facilitate cross industry discussion and knowledge sharing regarding the needs and priorities for electric vehicle data.

The key purposes of the taskforce are:

  1. Provide recommendation to DEIP regarding industry needs and priorities for EV data, alongside proposed data sources, collection mechanisms and delivery options.
  2. Progress data access requirements identified in AEMO’s Electric Vehicle Modelling Roadmap, as well as priorities determined by wider industry.
  3. Demonstrate the value of an EV data repository to decision makers/regulators/legislators.

The Data Availability Taskforce has developed the following report that achieves these objectives:

Vehicle-Grid Integration Standards Taskforce

This taskforce relates to the Distributed Energy Integration Program (DEIP) and AEMO’s DER Standards workstream.

The DEIP ‘Vehicle-Grid Integration Standards Taskforce’ (VGIST) brings together a broad range of industry and government stakeholders to assess the role in which electric vehicle standards could play in Australia and current capabilities to effectively integrate electric vehicles into Australia’s grid. This taskforce collaborates with all aspects of the DER Program, with key findings and outcomes feeding into the DEIP Market Development stream and DER initiatives across the industry.

Objective:

The objective of the group is to facilitate cross industry discussion and knowledge sharing regarding the development of standards, data capability and interoperability of EVs/charging equipment.

The key purposes of the taskforce are:

  1. Locate gaps in the electric vehicle-grid integration standards landscape in Australia where the absence of a standard may lead to negative impact on consumers
  2. Catalogue international standards that may be candidates for adoption/modification to cater for the identified gaps

The Vehicle-Grid integration standards taskforce have developed the following report that achieves these objectives:
