Fast Frequency Response Market - Local dispatch of Very Fast Contingency FCAS in SA and QLD

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Following a review of the operation of the Very Fast FCAS market, AEMO will commence local dispatch of Very Fast FCAS in the South Australia (SA) and Queensland (QLD) regions from 10th June 2025, during periods where islanding of the region is considered credible.

An initial dispatch cap of 100 MW will apply in the SA region, and 20 MW in the QLD region. These caps will be reviewed and updated regularly.

From the same date, AEMO will also dispatch Very Fast FCAS in the QLD region when an actual islanding event occurs. In this scenario, no dispatch cap will apply.

Dispatch of Very Fast FCAS in the SA region under actual islanding conditions commenced in 2024. Refer to Market Notice 117238 for further details.
