We are pleased to present our Annual Report for the 2017-18 year. It outlines AEMO’s performance and priorities for the year ahead and some key focus areas for the organisation.

In 2017-18, we utilised our technical expertise, knowledge and strong working relationships with industry and governments to deliver reliable supply and meet required targets, including through Australia’s second-warmest summer on record.

Collaboration also delivered tangible improvements to system security, and progressed work on market reforms aimed at making energy supply for Australian consumers more efficient and affordable. The final recommendations from the review of South Australia’s 2016 black system were also addressed.

AEMO established new partnerships to trial innovative options for delivering energy resources to meet consumer demand and vital services to keep the power system operating securely, and we implemented new approaches to forecasting to better account for increasingly extreme weather and uncertainties that are affecting both demand and supply.

We also communicated in new ways with governments, industry members, and the public, aiming to increase shared understanding of how energy systems operate, and what options could meet needs at the lowest cost for consumers.
