The search for our next cohort of graduates has kicked off, with AEMO’s celebrated Graduate Development Program now accepting applications for 2022.
With women’s participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) qualified roles and industries still significantly underrepresented, AEMO is taking meaningful steps to further increase female participation in the energy industry with its first ever female-dedicated graduate program intake.
AEMO Chief Markets Officer and sponsor of the Women@AEMO group, Violette Mouchaileh, said: “Our organisation and the communities we serve benefit enormously from the contributions of extraordinary women in STEM here at AEMO and across our industry.
“By aiming for a 100% female intake for our 2022 grad program, we are taking deliberate actions to focus on improving our gender balance and build teams that more closely represent the communities we operate in – so that we create better outcomes for consumers and make AEMO a great place to work,” she said.
This initiative is part of a broader program of work underway at AEMO to reach a goal of 40% female representation across the business by 2025, which reflects an increase of 17.5% on our current position.
“This program is an example of living our value of inclusion, through increasing our female participation, learning from and celebrating a diversity of views, and contributing to gender equity. Diversity of people, experiences and perspectives is important in achieving outcomes that benefit everyone,” said Violette.
AEMO’s role is to design and operate a sustainable energy system that provides safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and to enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. To deliver for Australian consumers, our ambition is to create grids that can handle 100% instantaneous penetration of renewables by 2025. AEMO will need to harness the power of collaboration and cooperation among our employees, industry and other stakeholders to accomplish this feat. Up for the challenge? Then we want to hear from you! We encourage female candidates from QLD, VIC, SA and WA with the relevant qualifications and a genuine interest in the energy sector to apply for the program.
“The AEMO Graduate Development Program is a great launching pad for an exciting and diverse career. Our program seeks to enrich Australia’s energy expertise and nurture our future energy leaders to, ultimately, help shape a better energy future for all Australians,” said Violette.
Successful candidates are guaranteed three years of tangible experience as they complete nine-month rotations with different departments at AEMO, obtaining unparalleled experience in an organisation which operates at the heart of the energy sector.
