The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has today published the Stage 2 release of the Draft 2025 Inputs, Assumptions and Scenarios Report (IASR), inviting stakeholder feedback.
The 2025 IASR details how AEMO will model the future in its forecasting and planning publications including the 2025 Electricity Statement of Opportunities and the 2026 Integrated System Plan (ISP).
Building on Stage 1 of the report, released in December, this latest update focuses on Australia’s decarbonisation journey, particularly in the energy sector, alongside growing trends in electrification and fuel-switching.
It highlights emission reduction strategies and carbon sequestration efforts while incorporating new Australian Energy Market Commission rules based on recommendations from the Federal Government’s ISP Review, endorsed by the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council.
AEMO’s Executive General Manager of System Design, Merryn York, emphasised the importance of ongoing stakeholder engagement to refining the IASR to achieve better outcomes for energy consumers.
“These new draft inputs – ranging from energy efficiency policies to decarbonisation forecasts – alongside the assumptions and scenarios from Stage 1, will guide AEMO’s forecasting and planning activities,” said Ms York.
“We encourage stakeholders to share their views on the Stage 2 report in our formal consultation process, culminating in the final IASR mid-year,” she said.
All stakeholders are invited to attend a webinar on the Stage 2 report and provide a written submission by 6pm (AEDT) on Monday 31 March 2025.
AEMO received more than 30 submissions on Stage 1 of the report, supported by a public webinar in January to present the latest insights and answer questions.
The final 2025 IASR is expected to be published by 31 July 2025, considering the submissions provided by stakeholders to each of the IASR releases.
