In accordance with section 116 of the National Electricity Law, AEMO has issued a direction to a participant in the SA region. For the purposes of the National Electricity Rules this is a direction under clause 4.8.9(a).
The direction was necessary to maintain the power system in a secure operating state.
AEMO may issue or revoke additional directions in order to meet the current requirement, unless sufficient market response is provided. A further market notice will be issued when all directions related to this requirement have been cancelled.
The issue of the direction commences an AEMO intervention event. AEMO declares all trading intervals during the event to be intervention trading intervals, commencing from the interval ending 1535 hrs on 14/12/2023.
Intervention pricing does not apply to this AEMO intervention event.

At 1350 28/11/2023 hrs Tungkillo- Robertstown No.1 and No.2 275kV lines and the Robertstown No.1 and No.2 synchronous condensers were reclassified due to the elements tripping at 0534 hrs 28/11/2023
The cause of trip was identified as due to lightning.
In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers the following elements to be vulnerable due to lightning.
Elements: Tungkillo- Robertstown No.1 and No.2 275kV lines and the Robertstown No.1 and No.2 synchronous condensers.

The synchronous generating units currently expected to be synchronised in SA from 0800 hrs 15/12/2023 will be inadequate to maintain a secure operating state in SA .
AEMO estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 1530 hrs 14/12/2023, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction requiring one or more SA synchronous generating unit(s) to operate or remain synchronised to maintain power system security in SA.

The synchronous generating units currently expected to be synchronised in SA from 0730 hrs 15/12/2023 will be inadequate to maintain sufficient system strength in SA and hence a secure operating state.
AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction requiring one or more SA synchronous generating unit(s) to operate or remain synchronised to maintain power system security in SA.

NEM Local Temperature Alerts for VIC from 14 Dec 2023 to 18 Dec 2023
AEMO's weather service provider has issued forecast temperatures equal to or greater than the NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels for listed weather stations below.

The NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels are:
Launceston Ti Tree Bend: 33 Deg C, Dalby Airport: 37 Deg C, for all other selected weather stations: 39 Deg C.
AEMO requests Market Participants to:
1. review the weather forecast in the local area where their generating units / MNSP converter stations are located and,
2. if required, update the available capacity in their dispatch offers or availability submissions consistent with the forecast temperatures.

At 1324 hrs 13/12/2023 the Hadspen - Palmerston No.3 & No.4 110 kV lines tripped and auto reclosed.
The cause of trip was identified as due to lightning.
In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers the Hadspen - Palmerston No.3 & No.4 110 kV lines to be vulnerable with a category of probable due to lightning.

AEMO estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 1700 hrs 13/12/2023, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction requiring one or more SA synchronous generating unit(s) to operate or remain synchronised to maintain power system security in SA.

Fast Frequency Response Market - Increase in R1 FCAS volume 18 December 2023.
Following review of the operation of the Very Fast FCAS market, from 1300 hrs AEST on Monday 18 December AEMO will:
Increase the cap on dispatch of Very Fast Raise (R1) Contingency FCAS from 175 MW to 225 MW
Retain the existing cap on dispatch of Very Fast Lower (L1) Contingency FCAS at 100 MW
No other changes to the dispatch of Very Fast FCAS or FCAS constraint equation changes will be made on this date
