Significant power system event - 13 Feb 2024

At 1308 hrs 13/02/2024 a significant power system event occurred.

Description of event - Multiple tripping of generation and transmission lines in the Vic region

Transmission element(s) tripped - Moorabool Sydenham No1 and No2 500 kV lines tripped

Region/s - Vic

Load interrupted - in excess of 1000 MW

Generation volume tripped - 2300 MW

Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.

This Market Notice is issued in accordance with NER clause 4.8.3.

Mildura Ap (39+ Deg C): 12th Feb, 13th Feb

The NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels are:

Launceston Ti Tree Bend: 33 Deg C, Dalby Airport: 37 Deg C, for all other selected weather stations: 39 Deg C.

AEMO requests Market Participants to:

1. review the weather forecast in the local area where their generating units / MNSP converter stations are located and,

2. if required, update the available capacity in their dispatch offers or availability submissions consistent with the forecast temperatures.

There is an opportunity for testing QNI Minor for flows from NSW to Qld up to 750 MW on Wednesday 7th February 2024 from 1400 to 1800hrs.

This test includes a trip and reclose of a line in northern NSW.

The Actual LOR1 Condition in the QLD Region advised in AEMO Electricity Market Notice No.114399 is cancelled at 1945 hrs 06/02/2024.

Update - Actual Lack Of Reserve Level 1 (LOR1) in the QLD region - 06/02/2024

The actual LOR1 condition in the Qld region advised in AEMO Electricity Market Notice No. 114397 has been updated at 1915 hrs 06/02/2024 to the following:

The Actual LOR1 condition is forecast to exist until 2000 hrs.

The forecast capacity reserve requirement is 1045 MW.
The minimum capacity reserve available is 950 MW.

Actual Lack Of Reserve Level 1 (LOR1) in the QLD region - 06/02/2024

An Actual LOR1 condition has been declared under clause 4.8.4(b) of the National Electricity Rules for the QLD region from 1800 hrs.
The Actual LOR1 condition is forecast to exist until 1930 hrs

The capacity reserve requirement is 1095 MW
The minimum capacity reserve available is 892 MW
