Independent regional planning reports
As national transmission planner, AEMO carries out independent, technical reviews of emerging transmission network investment requirements in regional jurisdictions. The methodology applied was developed in consultation with both the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and relevant Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs).
The planning reviews assess the extent to which proposed investments are required to address transmission network needs, and considers whether alternative options could better support the efficient operation of, and investment in, electricity networks, in the long-term interests of consumers.
Queensland
As National Transmission Planner, in 2015 AEMO carried out an independent, technical review of emerging transmission network investment requirements in Queensland over the next seven years.
This review was intended to provide a reference point for the AER and TNSP Powerlink in the regulatory revenue process for the period 1 July 2017 – 30 June 2022. It can also assist non-network service providers in identifying development opportunities.
