Audrey Zibelman, AEMO's own CEO, recently joined industry delegates in Paris to deliver the keynote presentation at the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) opening ceremony.
Ms. Zibelman's keynote address, to a room of 2,000 global delegates, primarily focused on future electricity markets and business models and how the energy industry will navigate the transition to the fourth industrial revolution. Dubbed as Industry 4.0, the revolution encompasses the merging of physical, digital, and biological systems and is expected to have a profound and transformative impact on many industries throughout the global economy, especially energy.
She highlighted the drivers of disruption throughout the industry and the imperative to adopt ‘4th Industrial thinking’ so that the energy sector can adapt to, and anticipate, the rapid pace of technological change. She used a Kurzweil quote to reinforce this point: “We won’t experience 100 years of progress in the 21st century – it will be more like 20,000 years of progress.”
AEMO would like to express its gratitude to CIGRE for the opportunity to be a part of such a prestigious global event. We will continue to share details from similar events going forward.
