Unaccounted for Energy (UFE) Information and Reports

AEMO publishes the Unaccounted for Energy (UFE) Trends Report, under clause 3.15.5B of the National Electricity Rules, to provide information and analysis of unaccounted for energy (UFE) in each local area to facilitate efficient decreases in UFE over time.

UFE Reporting Guidelines

The UFE reporting guidelines, made under NER 3.15.5B, set out AEMO’s approach to preparing and publishing UFE Trends Reports.

UFE Trends Reports

The UFE Trends Report provides information about UFE in each local area for a 24 month period.  The content of the report addresses the requirements under NEM 3.15.5B for AEMO to:

  • Report on the total UFE for each local area,
  • Identify sources of UFE in each local area,
  • Determine UFE benchmarks upon which future reports would be based, and
  • Recommend actions to reduce UFE for each local area.

Total UFE for each local area is calculated in accordance with formulations prescribed in NER 3.15.5

UFE Trends Report Source Data

UFE Trends Reports are produced annually covering a rolling 24-month period to ensure that a substantial period covered by the report will facilitate monthly and seasonal comparisons of UFE values.

Source data related to the UFE Trends Reports is provided to assist Participants to analyse and interpret the information presented in the UFE Trends Reports.

Source data is provided in two spreadsheets aggregated into periods of four trading weeks. The naming convention for each spreadsheet is:
