Update - Lightning vulnerable equipment in QLD region

Special Reclassification of Transmission Equipment during lightning

Refer to AEMO Electricity Market Notice 115270.

At 1029 hrs 28/02/2024 the Tully - Cardwell No.7389 132 kV Line tripped and auto reclosed and Ross - Woree No. 8905 275 kV Line tripped and auto reclosed.

The cause of the trip was identified as due to lightning.

In accordance with SO_OP_3715, AEMO now considers these lines to be vulnerable due to lightning.

Non-credible contingency event - QLD region - 28/02/2024

At 1029 hrs the Tully - Cardwell No.7389 132 kV Line tripped and auto reclosed and Ross - Woree No. 8905 275 kV Line tripped and auto reclosed.

AEMO did not instruct load shedding.

AEMO has not been advised of any disconnection of bulk electrical load.

The cause of this non credible contingency event is not known at this stage.

AEMO's weather service provider has issued forecast temperatures equal to or greater than the NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels for listed weather stations below.

SA
Port Augusta Ap (39+ Deg C): 27th Feb, 28th Feb

VIC
Mildura Ap (39+ Deg C): 28th Feb

The NEM Local Temperature Alert Levels are:

Launceston Ti Tree Bend: 33 Deg C, Dalby Airport: 37 Deg C, for all other selected weather stations: 39 Deg C.

AEMO requests Market Participants to:

1. review the weather forecast in the local area where their generating units / MNSP converter stations are located and,

2. if required, update the available capacity in their dispatch offers or availability submissions consistent with the forecast temperatures.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE.

Update - Significant power system event - 13/02/2024

Refer AEMO Electricity Market Notices 114685

At 1247 hrs 15/02/2024 the Hazelwood PS - Jeeralang No 2 220kV line was returned to service in the Victoria region

All of the equipment has now been returned to service.

The cause of this significant power system event has been identified and AEMO is satisfied that another occurrence of this event is unlikely under the current circumstances.

AEMO will not reclassify this event as a credible contingency event.
